- 1 loaf brioche or challah bread cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter for greasing
- Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside. Use slightly stale bread if possible.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish and add bread cubes. Pour custard evenly over the top and press down lightly.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight or let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with maple syrup.
