  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter for greasing
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside. Use slightly stale bread if possible.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and add bread cubes. Pour custard evenly over the top and press down lightly.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight or let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with maple syrup.
