Description

Great for Sunday dinners, cozy nights, or Southern-themed meals, this crispy chicken fried steak with gravy is pure comfort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour (for gravy)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Set up dredging bowls: one with seasoned flour and one with eggs and milk.
  2. Dip steaks in flour, egg wash, then back in flour. Let rest 10 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and fry steaks 3-4 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  4. For gravy, remove excess oil, melt butter, and whisk in flour to make a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in broth and milk. Simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve steaks hot with gravy poured over top.

Notes

  • Let breaded steaks rest before frying for better crust.
  • Use buttermilk in egg wash for tangier flavor.
  • Bake instead of fry for a lighter option.
  • Reheat in oven or skillet to keep crust crisp.
