Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast in warm milk with 1 tbsp sugar until frothy.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, milk mixture, egg, and butter to form dough.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down dough and roll into rectangle.
  6. Spread cream cheese and sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  7. Roll up and slice into pieces.
  8. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
  9. Brush with egg wash.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden.
