- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 loaf brioche or challah bread (cubed)
- 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries raspberries strawberries)
- 1 tbsp butter (for greasing)
- Powdered sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Cut the bread into cubes and toast or leave out to dry slightly.
- In a bowl whisk eggs milk cream sugar vanilla and cinnamon.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the bread then scatter half of the berries and pour half the custard over.
- Repeat with the rest of the bread berries and custard.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake covered for 30 minutes then uncover and bake 20 minutes more until golden and set.
- Let cool for a few minutes then dust with powdered sugar and serve.

- Use day-old bread for best texture.
- Frozen berries can be used just toss in flour first.
